POLICY
The HIPAA Privacy Rules requires patients to be informed of their privacy rights regarding the use and disclosure of the PHI. Patients must be informed of the privacy practices of their healthcare providers.
NOTIFICATION OF PRIVACY
The following procedures shall be used to inform patients of their Rights to Privacy
- The Pharmacy must distribute to the patient a notice that provides a clear explanation of the patient’s rights and Pharmacy’s use of PHI information.
- The Pharmacy must get an acknowledgment from the patient that they have received this notice.
- The Pharmacy must post in clear visibility, a sign that describes the patient’s rights to privacy.
NON-ROUTINE DISCLOSURES OF PHI
The Privacy Notice must inform the patient on how to request an accounting of any Non-Routine disclosures of their PHI.
