Cardiac Rehabilitation:
More than 16 million Americans are affected by coronary artery disease, and it is estimated that nearly one million Americans will suffer a heart attack this year. In response to the high percentage of cardiovascular disease in our society, Habersham Medical Center providers a comprehensive three-phase cardiac rehabilitation program designed to increase heart health and general wellness. Cardiac Rehabilitation has been shown to decrease cardiac mortality by 26 percent. Medicare and most commercial insurance plans cover cardiac rehabilitation when the following diagnoses are established. New patients are accepted by physician referral.
- Heart Valve Repair/Replacement
- Coronary Stenting or PTCA
- Heart or heart-lung transplant
- Stable Angina
- Acute Myocardial Infarction
- Coronary Artery Bypass
Since 1986 our cardiac rehab team has worked together to provide patients with a comprehensive treatment plan. The cardiac rehab staff members are registered nurses and our program maintains certification by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).
In addition, a registered dietician and an exercise physiologist are also involved in the care of cardiac rehab patients.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation:
Habersham Medical Center also offers a Pulmonary Rehab Program for people suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including emphysema, chronic bronchitis and asthma as well as other pulmonary diseases. This program is coordinated by the Cardiac Rehab personnel and consists of three one-hour sessions per week for six weeks.
Peripheral Artery Disease Rehabilitation:
There is a high prevalence in the US of PAD which often causes symptoms of leg pain, fatigue, and limited walking. This monitored exercise program will lessen symptoms, improve mobility, and functional capacity.
