On February 28, 2018, the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) awarded a Bronze level membership to Habersham Medical Center as part of their Honor Roll for Antibiotic Stewardship. DPH stated that Habersham Medical Center demonstrated commitment to the appropriate use of antibiotics.

Antibiotic stewardship is important as it can improve patient care and prevent the spread of antimicrobial resistance. DPH stated that Habersham Medical Center’s commitment to the appropriate use of antibiotics is critical to preserve the miracle of these drugs for future generations.

Angela M. Harpold, RPh, Director of Pharmacy at Habersham Medical Center commented “To gain bronze status in the Georgia Antibiotic Stewardship Honor Roll is a tremendous achievement for Habersham Medical Center and the community it serves.  Antibiotic Stewardship is defined as the commitment to always use antibiotics appropriately and safely—only when they are needed and to treat disease to delay the progression of resistance.

Habersham Medical Center is committed to excellence and the Antibiotic Stewardship Program is a perfect example of this. The initiatives put forth through this program are devised and implemented with a dedicated team of medical professionals working together including physicians, pharmacists, medical technologists, infection preventionists, IT nurse representative and quality management. We are excited and proud of this achievement and are already on the path to GOLD!”
