HABERSHAM MEDICAL CENTER EARNS FOUR-STAR QUALITY RANKING FROM CMS
Habersham Medical Center (HMC) has earned a Four-Star Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the nation’s top health agency.
The Five-Star Quality Rating System is an evidence-based, data-driven appraisal of 57 quality measures that have real meaning for patient’s health and well-being. A broad range of the categories include: mortality, including death rates for heart attack and stroke; safety, including infection rates and surgical complications; readmissions within 30 days of a previous admission for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart failure, pneumonia, and elective total hip and knee surgeries; patient experience, including clinical communication, medication education and a clean environment and; timeliness of care, including emergency room and outpatient care.
In order to receive a star rating, a hospital must report at least three measures within three of the groups above, one of which must specifically be Mortality or Safety of Care. Habersham Medical Center submits measures in all five measure groups.
The National Average for hospitals is Three-Stars. Yet, with a steadfast commitment to delivering exceptional care and service, Habersham Medical Center exceeded the national average for the first time since the inception of the Star Quality Rating System. “Even in the midst of a global pandemic that threatened the very vitality of healthcare systems around the world, our collective resolve, resilience, and readiness to care for our patients and each other gave us the strength and fortitude to persevere”, says Tyler Williams, President and CEO of Habersham Medical Center. “I am grateful for every member of the HMC family for helping us achieve this significant ranking.”
HMC also recently received the 2020 Industry of the Year Award from the Habersham County Chamber of Commerce.
