Hansel and Betty McCollum named the HMC Volunteers of the Year
 
            DEMOREST, Ga. – Hansel and Betty McCollum of Cleveland were named the Habersham Medical Center (HMC) volunteers of the year during the annual Love Light Christmas Musical held on Dec. 3rdat Bethlehem Baptist Church in Clarkesville.
           
            Betty McCollum has been a volunteer at Habersham Home, Habersham Medical Center’s long-term care facility since April 2010.  “Betty’s mother is a resident of Habersham Home and Betty volunteers weekly and does activities for all the residents,” says Ryan Snow, Director of Volunteer Services and Patient-Client Relations.  “She volunteers whenever and wherever needed and is always willing to help the residents and staff.”
 
            After retiring from Fieldale Corporation, Hansel joined in his wife Betty’s volunteer efforts at Habersham Home.  “Throughout the heat of the summer, you will often see Hansel outside with his truck and watering system making sure the plants have plenty of water,” adds Snow. “We are truly thankful for this couple’s dedication to our facility.”
             
            The annual volunteer of the award is named the Jack Courson Volunteer Spirit Award in memory of the late Jack Courson, a long-time HMC volunteer who passed away in 1997, and this year the recipients were selected by members of the HMC Auxiliary.   For more information on the HMC Volunteer program, call (706) 754-3113, ext. 1116 or e-mail rsnow@hcmcmed.org.
