Total Fitness, an exercise facility operated by Habersham Medical Center, opened at its new location in the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center on Tuesday, July 5, 2011.
“The facility has been located on the campus of Piedmont College for the past 14 years,” says Cindy Beckett, facility manager. “The college announced in December 2010 that it needed the space occupied by Total Fitness for its expanding athletic programs. Mindful that the facility is important to the health and wellbeing of our more than 1,000 members, Habersham Medical Center worked with the county to lease space in the Aquatic Center.”
Beckett also stated that Total Fitness’s move to the Aquatic Center seems to be a natural fit and win-win for the hospital and the county. “Both our structured wellness and fitness programs are provided for citizens of all ages and ability levels,” adds Beckett. “In addition, Total Fitness members will now have the opportunity to use the pools at the Aquatic Center for an additional small fee, and the facility also offers our members the use of the shower facilities, gym, and indoor walking area.”
Total Fitness offers cardio and strength training equipment, aerobics classes and the facility is also a Silver Sneakers® provider. A nationally-recognized fitness program for seniors, 65 and older, Silver Sneakers® offers a variety of low-impact exercises designed to increase muscular strength, endurance, mobility, flexibility, balance, agility and coordination.
A variety of memberships are available including individual, family, business and dual (Habersham Recreation Department and Total Fitness) memberships. Total Fitness hours are Monday – Thursday 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Friday 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
