Mr. and Ms. Habersham Home Winners Crowned During Annual Pageant
DEMOREST, Ga. – Ms. Beatrice Ferguson was crowned Ms. Habersham Home 2010 and Mr. Edward Smith was named Mr. Habersham Home during the 33rd annual pageant held at Habersham Medical Center’s long-term care facility on Friday, April 9th.
Ms. Ferguson lived in Lula most of her life and worked as an inspector at Mount Vernon Mills for almost 30 years. She has three children, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Mr. Habersham Home, Edward Smith, was raised near Macon, Georgia, and lived in Clarkesville for many years. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Smith is a licensed pilot and started a peach orchard in Habersham County which he nurtured into his early 90s. He has four children, 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Ms. Margaret Williams was named first runner-up for Ms. Habersham Home 2010. Ms. Williams was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She earned a master’s degree from Georgia State College for Women and served in the Air Force for 32 years where she was an airplane pilot and a ship skipper for 30 and 60 foot boats. Ms. Williams also loved hang gliding and taught marine science and navigation.
Second runner-up was Ms. Georgia Rodriguez. Before becoming a resident at Habersham Home, Ms. Rodriguez lived in Cleveland, Georgia, for several years and lived most of her life on an Indian Reservation in California.
First runner-up for Mr. Habersham Home was John Streeter. A native of Glens Falls, New York, Mr. Streeter served in the Navy, Air Force and Army as a system analyst for 27 years. He is a member of the Masons, Shriners, Knights Templar and Eastern Star. He is also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion. He has one son, three grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Mr. Raymond Dill of Mt. Airy was named second runner-up. He worked as a mechanic and loved working on motorcycles. He has three children and 14 grandchildren.
Habersham Home in Demorest is an 84-bed long-term care facility owned and operated by Habersham Medical Center.
