James E. Spoden, MD, an otolaryngologist or ear, nose and throat specialist, has joined the Habersham Medical Center Medical Staff and will begin seeing patients at his Demorest office on February 7, 2011.

Dr. Spoden is a graduate of the University of Iowa and completed his internship in general surgery at Butterworth Hospital, Grand Rapids, Michigan, and his residency and an associate fellowship at the Department of Otolaryngology and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Iowa. After practicing otolaryngology in Iowa for 20 years, Dr. Spoden returned to academic medicine where he spent another six years on the staff of Texas Tech University and Indiana University.

Board Certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology in Head and Neck Surgery, Dr. Spoden is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American College of Surgeons.

He and his wife Janet are relocating to Habersham County from Zionsville, Indiana.
