Dwozan elected to serve on the Georgia Hospital Association’s Board of Directors
DEMOREST, Ga. – C. Richard Dwozan, president of Habersham Medical Center, has been elected to serve on the board of trustees of the Georgia Hospital Association (GHA). Dwozan previously served on the GHA board of trustees and served as chairman in 2005. In his new role on the board, he is serving as a delegate of the American Hospital Association.
As president of Habersham Medical Center for more than two decades, Dwozan’s leadership has helped the medical center earn national and state recognition. A Joint Commission Certified Primary Stroke Center, Habersham Medical Center was mentioned in US News and World Report for excellence in stroke care and was named to the Georgia Hospital Association’s 2009 Circle of Excellence for quality and patient safety; the only community hospital in Georgia to receive this honor. During his tenure, the medical center has also more than doubled in size with the completion of two major expansions. The most recent $38.6 million expansion was completed in 2009 and included a new 17,000 square foot emergency department and a new 24-private bed outpatient surgery center.
“Dwozan is one of the most innovative hospital leaders in the state,” said Georgia Hospital Association President Joseph Parker. “His progressive leadership and passion for improving access to health care services in rural areas has helped make Habersham Medical Center a shining example of rural health care at its best.”
A native of Eastman, Georgia, Dwozan earned a degree in pharmacy from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in health care administration from Georgia State University.
He and his wife Denise live in Cornelia and have three children, John Michael, Charlie and Annamarie, and are members of River Point Community Church.
The Georgia Hospital Association is a non-profit trade association serving approximately 174 hospitals and health systems throughout Georgia.
