DEMOREST, Ga. – Richard Olson, MD, FACS, a general surgeon with more than 23 years of professional experience, has joined the Habersham Medical Center Medical Staff and began practicing in Habersham County on Monday, July 11, 2011.

For the past ten years, Dr. Olson has been practicing in Gainesville, Georgia, with Northeast Georgia Surgical Associates.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN and a Medical Degree from the Duke University School of Medicine, Durham, NC.

Dr. Olson completed his Residency in General Surgery at Grady Hospital in Atlanta and his postgraduate training includes Fellowships in General Surgery at Duke University and Emory University. He also is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Board of Surgery, Georgia Surgical Society, Southeastern Surgical Society and the American Medical Informatics Association.

Born and raised in Minnesota, Dr. Olson and his wife Terri have four children and currently reside in Gainesville.
