Dr. Charles White Elected Chairman of the Georgia Medical Board
Cleveland, GA – Charles L. White, Jr., D.O., a family medicine physician in White County for more than 25 years, has been elected to serve as the 2011-2012 chairman of the Georgia Medical Board.
Dr. White was first appointed to the Board in May 2007 by Governor Sonny Perdue and since his appointment has served as vice-chairperson and on several committees including chairing the Acupuncture and Impairment Advisory Committee.
Dr. White earned a Doctor of Osteopathy degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Tennessee, College of Pharmacy, in Memphis, Tennessee. He also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from Mercer University, School of Pharmacy, in Atlanta.
Board Certified in Family Medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine, Dr. White completed his internship and family practice residency at Northlake Regional Hospital, formerly Doctors Hospital, in Tucker, Georgia.
Dr. White served as the medical director of an indigent medical program for the White County Board of Health from 1999-2001; and served as chief pharmacist for Highlands General Hospital in Sebring, Florida, from 1972-1979.
He is a clinical assistant professor at Mercer University School of Medicine and serves as a preceptor for the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Georgia Campus. His professional memberships include the American Osteopathic Medical Association; Georgia Osteopathic Medical Association; the American Academy of Family Medicine; the Georgia Academy of Family Medicine and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care.
Dr. White also served as president of the Georgia Osteopathic Medical Association and was honored by the Georgia Osteopathic Medical Association as Physician of the Year in 2003. His civic and public service includes being a former elected member of the White County Board of Commissioners; former chairman of the White County Board of Health; former chairman of the White County Board of Recreation; alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention in 2008 and board member and medical director of Caring Hands Health Clinic. For his community service, he was recognized as the 2010 Community Quarterback Award Honoree from The Atlanta Falcons Football Club.
